BANANA BRINGS BOUNTY

Farmers in tribal area of Visakhapatnam District of Andhra Pradesh make a living through cultivation of crops like millets, pulses and oil seeds and honey collection. In order to make best use of barren trenches, plantation crops like local banana were encouraged. This gave farmers an additional source of income.

FENCING BRINGS IN NEW ENTERPRISES

Pangi Dasarath is a farmer from Karabali village in Gasaba Panchayat of Visakhapatnam District. When Maathota activities were initiated, the land identified for Maathota was sloppy, filled with boulders and less productive. With a modest beginning, he now has turned it into a productive land.

FRUITS OF INTEGRATED FARMING SYSTEMS

Integrated farming systems provide a variety of income sources for a farmer. One such example of Integrated farming systems is being practiced by a tribal farmer Kindangi Narayana. With his hard work, he opened a well for farming inter-crops.

FRUITS OF VALUE ADDITION: TURMERIC

Turmeric is extensively cultivated by tribal farmers in Visakhapatnam agency area. Kasturi and Roma are the common varieties grown in VIKASA project area. Sri. Lokoi Balaram of Jakaraguda village cultivated turmeric in a small area and earned profit.

RENOVATED CATTLE SHEDS

Cattle are the integral part of the farming and so also in tribal agriculture. Majority of the tribal farmers limit their cultivation to the extent manure is available for cultivation. VIKASA concretised 940 existing cattle sheds which was of great help to the farmers.
